Thank you for your willingness to teach at WBLT this year. As a teacher for WBLT you must understand and commit to the following:

1. You are commiting to our attendance expectations for 26 weeks divided over two semesters.

As stated in our handbook: "if you have vacation or travel planned that will require you to miss more than once each semester, please communicate with your grade level chair about these circumstances and how you plan to balance this with making co-op a priority." (Making co-op a success depends on all members being present. It's also more fun when everyone is doing their part!)

2. You are committing to our statement of faith:

West Branch Learning Tree Co-op Statement of Faith

  • We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the inspired Word of God, and we adhere to its teachings as a guide to our lives.
  • We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons:Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived on earth without sin, and the central purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for man’s sin through His death on the cross, the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent bodily resurrection.
  • We believe salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone.
  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female and both are made in the image of God. God further created marriage as a covenant relationship between one man and one woman, for His own glory.

(It is understood that members of WBLT may hold personal convictions that differ from these beliefs, but teachers must be committed to upholding them in our classes.)

3. You are committing to our guidelines for classroom management:

  1. To be prepared and on time for class each week.

  2. To submit a class description, class syllabus, and substitute teacher lesson plan. (A complete first semester syllabus should all be submitted before co-op begins to your grade level chair.  A complete second semester syllabus should be submitted before the Monday we return in January to your grade level chair.)

  3. To have open communication with parents and WBLT leadership regarding student progress, disruptive behavior, chronic tardiness, and/or incomplete work.  You may either send an email or fill out an incident report. (See document “Process for addressing students struggling with class expectations” for recommended steps)

  4. To be in regular contact with families to communicate expectations.  Families need to have clear expectations regarding what is expected of their child.  All communication/HW for the week should be sent by Tuesday at noon so families have adequate time to plan their week.   If there is an event the student is required to attend outside of co-op time, please give those dates at the beginning of each semester for adequate planning time.

  5. To purchase needed supplies and turn in reimbursement requests. To use the Tax Exempt Letter for all purchases or not be reimbursed for taxes paid. All classes receive an automatic $25 to spend on materials.  If your class charged an additional fee, you may purchase materials up to the amount collected plus $25.  If you need additional money, you must get grade level chair approval to get reimbursed.  See your GLC to get a copy of this form.

  6. To notify your Grade Level Coordinator, the Registrar, and your class helper when you will be absent.  The helper in your class will be asked to take over and teach in the event of your absence.  Plan a way to get materials to them so the class can continue smoothly while you are absent.

  7. To communicate openly with your helper(s) about how they can best assist you during class. If you want specific helpers for the class you are teaching, send an email over the summer to the Registrar.

  8. To take attendance each week and submit it online through the website by the end of the day Monday. (If you are unable to complete attendance online please communicate with the Registrar as she is happy to help with this.)

  9. To set up your classroom each week or put it back as the need arises.

  10. To reserve the kitchen (or other approved space) if your class involves food. (There is NO EATING in any classroom without express permission of the building coordinator.)  Reservations should be made with the help of your Grade Level Chair.  You will receive an approval if the kitchen is available for your class.

  11. To make all copy requests using a copy request form one week in advance.  Copies submitted on the day needed are not guaranteed to be completed on time.

  12. To not allow visitors or any new students in your class without prior permission.

  13. To abide by all additional personal and family guidelines, whether laid out in the handbook or in another form of communication from the board.

  14. To complete a state background check online when requested.  (These are paid for by WBLT.)

Please understand the West Branch Learning Tree board reserves the right to review and approve all classes offered for the upcoming school year.  Classes will not be considered until all the criteria have been met.  For each class taught, the teacher will receive a discount of one child’s tuition ($100).  Furthermore, if there is not enough interest in a class at the close of registration, your class may be cancelled.  Full teacher discount may not be given in that circumstance. Teachers are not to teach more than two classes per year (or receive more than two discounts).
